Every book has a story behind it, and finally today, I would like to share the story behind my new book, Mininga in Baltimore.
The inspiration for this book goes back to my trip to Baltimore, USA, where I attended a research congress. It was a trip filled with unexpected experiences, and stories that stayed with me long after I returned home. Some of these experiences even inspired an earlier blog post (read it here).
But how did those experiences turn into a book?
Well, it started with a conversation.
One day, I was sharing some experiences from my trip with a friend. As I narrated what had happened, I could see how invested he was in the story. And then, when I got to the bus episode (you’ll understand if you read the book ;)), he reacted with so much excitement and tension that I could tell he was really feeling the story.
When I finished, he simply said, “Wow! You should write a story about this!”
And from that moment, a seed was planted.
Chose dite, chose faite! (A promise made is a promise kept!)
I thought, why not? Why not turn these experiences into a story that other people could read, enjoy, and maybe even learn something from?
So, I started writing.
And that is how Mininga in Baltimore began to take shape.
Now, here’s something interesting: although the book is inspired by a true story, it also contains elements of fiction. So, while some events are based on things that really happened, others have been imagined or creatively adapted to bring the story to life.
And honestly, I’m curious!
Will you be able to tell which parts really happened and which parts are fiction?
I wonder whether some readers will figure it out immediately or whether I’ll manage to keep them guessing until the very end. Haha!
If you’ve read Mininga in Baltimore, I’d love to hear your thoughts. And if you haven’t read it yet, perhaps this little behind-the-scenes story has made you curious!
Tell me in the comments: Which part of a true-story-inspired book do you find more intriguing, knowing that it really happened or trying to guess what the author made up?
And if you read Mininga in Baltimore, come back and tell me which events you think were real and which ones were fictional. Let’s see if you can figure it out!
